Hunter in Metro 2039

Marketing for Metro 2039 presents Hunter as the Führer of Novoreich and calls him a legendary Spartan. In Metro 2033, Hunter’s disappearance is the reason Artyom enters the Metro. The new game’s official pages do not explain how Hunter is alive, or why he leads Novoreich.

I watched the June 2026 gameplay reveal titled around Hunter and then looked for a survival explanation on Deep Silver’s story page. The reveal shows him as an antagonist. It does not include a flashback that accounts for the years since 2033. IGN’s trailer breakdown describes a malicious return. That is a critic’s reading of the footage, and I am labeling it that way instead of turning it into a plot point the publisher confirmed.

Two different questions

“Is this the same Hunter?” The marketing uses the name and the Spartan history, so the intended reading is yes. “How did he survive?” is unanswered. Community pages that fill the gap are speculation until 4A publishes the scene.
